Apple announces iPhone 3G
The prediction that everyone made a few weeks back was pretty true as Apple just announced the new iPhone yesterday. For your information, 3G is not the biggest changes from the iPhone as the main attraction of the new iPhone is the freaking low price at 199$/299$/399$ for 8GB, 16GB and 32GB respectively.
3G is just an upgrade on the data transfer, sadly there’s no a front face camera for making video call. If you get an iPhone 3G, you probably must get an unlimited data plan for you because that is what a 3G iPhone for, web surfing on the go, push email etc etc.
Unfortunately, there’s still isn’t any good mobile data plan here in Malaysia yet. Celcom is the most recommended one at the moment but I am not a Celcom user. I uses Maxis and Digi. People are complaining about the connection keep dropping on Maxis 3G Broadband while DiGi still do not offers any high speed data plan yet. As I’ll just have to wait for DiGi to announced 3G connection and U Mobile (new telco in Malaysia) to come to Penang.
Too, it’s now added with A-GPS which allow you to track yourself on the built in Google Maps.
Likes:
- 3G High Speed Data Transfer
- Cheaper Price
- Built in A-GPS
- iPhone 2.0 Firmware
- New cool Apps
- Foreign language input
Dislikes:
- Not announced in Malaysia yet. Has to get from Singapore and maybe with Singtel contract.
- No MMS
- No video recording
- No face front camera for video call
- Low quality camera
- In-store activation. Activate right away in-store.
Well, according to Steve during the Keynote, you can’t buy iPhone online in the states nor activate it yourself. All the activation is done in-store right away meaning that you will now have to sign up for the contract right away in Apple store, though those people out there sure got a way to avoid signing up for the contract when buying the iPhone right.
In Asia, it’s only Hong Kong and Japan that will get their first hand on the iPhone on July 11th while Singapore and other Asia Pacific country will be later this year. Sadly, there’s no Malaysia in the list. Oh my god!
Since it’s so cheap, it pretty worth to get one for yourself. As for me, I think I’ll be getting one as my secondary phone, I already have a phone that can do video call, getting this for my mobile entertainment and as a always connected device is good.

WWDC 08 Live Coverage
I have been following almost all Apple event since a year ago when I was being very enthusiastic on the technology world. It’s June, and it’s now the WWDC 08 happening in San Fransisco. Being a tech savvy teen, I can’t be traveling across the globe for the event as $ concerns.
I am currently sitting in front of the computer desk with a lot of tabs on my Firefox browser running and keep tapping F5 on several sites for the latest update on the keynote by Steve Job in San Fransisco.
I did some searching on live video or audio feed but turns out all of them are down right now. Guess I’ll just have to stick with the refreshing of words.
Here’s a few site that I am following.
- Cnet
Not so much but it’s sufficient for all the updates I need. I’ll gonna be having a dark eye circle in school tomorrow as it’s midnight here right now in Malaysia.
By the way, I do not own any Mac, yet but I have a lots of iPods at home. =D
Guitar Knight, 3rd Party Controller for Guitar Hero
My PlayStation 2 has been collecting dust for a long time. Recently, after playing the Guitar Hero game on my friend’s PlayStation, I felt in love with that game and I bought a copy of the game but without a guitar controller. After searching online for a guitar controller, I found a low price 3rd party controller and that is Wireless Guitar Knight Controller.
I bought the controller at Play-Asia for US$24.90 and it took them for like 8 days to delivered to my door steps via free shipping. Package come in a good bubble box. There’s actually a cheaper one but it’s wired. I prefer not to have the wire running around in my room as it’ll be look messy so I took the wireless one.
The guitar itself looks smaller than the original Guitar Hero’s guitar. It felt weird at first but it’s good to hold on later then. The whammy bar and the strum bar are nice to press on but the 5 buttons are a bit hard. The feeling is not the same on the original controller, though it’s still nice to play with, just need sometimes to master on it.
Just plug in the receiver into one of the controller port and you are ready go play. It requires 4 AA size battery but the package doesn’t come with any. It uses 2.4GHz wireless frequency instead of Bluetooth or Infrared so it may affect your home wireless network so you may want to change your Wifi channel. According to the manual, it says that distance of this controller will support up to 7 meter which is quite far already.
If you are looking for a place to buy your gaming needs online, check out Play-Asia, it’s where I do my shopping for my gaming gear and accessories. It’s reliable and large library of title and games. The best of all, it takes in PayPal.
Turn your iPhone/iPod touch into a LED Banner
Buying a LED badge or nametag is pretty expensive. If you have an iPhone or iTouch, you can save the cost and turn your huge 3.5″ screen into a scrolling LED ticker where you can have your message running or maybe do a lil adverting on your site URL.
It’s easy very to get the LED Banner or Ticker working on your iPhone/iTouch. Simply move to Installer (if you have already jailbreak it), search for LEDBanner at All Package and there’s only 1 result. Install it and you are ready to go.
Just type in your message you want to show and it will start scrolling. You can mount it on your belt and wear it along. People will start staring at your pants by then.
The only problem I face is how to keep the screen on for long but not turning off. Any idea?
Pirated Blu-Ray DVD on the shelf
You wouldn’t believe me, I bought a pirated Blu-Ray DVD disc today. I was accompanying my friend who was browsing for some pirated DVD at a shop here and something caught my eyes and that was the Blu-Ray disc cover. It is because of curiousity, I bought a copy home to try. It was selling for RM18 per disc. I knew that there’s no BD being copied or duplicate yet, though there’s image file of BD on the net. It’s possible for buring the image file on disc but it may not turn out high def because normal DVD player plays 480i/p video.
Of course, even if it’s a BD image on a DVD, I still can’t access those feature like on the BD player. After playing it for a while on the DVD player, I noticed that it’s just like a normal DVD video, at progressive scan but less noise. My DVD player can’t do upscaling to 1080 resolution, the maximum it can goes is 480p via component cable.
Since nothing much difference, I placed the disc into my media PC which connected to the TV via VGA cable and capable to output a resolution of 720p. Maybe it will be playing at higher res on my PC though after checking the video resolution, it’s at 720×480 which is same like DVD movie. This is definitely not a HD movie. I could say it’s a downscaled HD movie on a DVD. Even the TV series I’ve downloaded is at higher resolution that that (1280×720).
Well, it’s just fake seeing BluRay disc in pirated DVD shop. By the way, please support original titles. ![]()
David Cook appears on Guitar Hero commercial

The winner of the latest season of American Idol, David Cook happens to be one of the Guitar Hero commercial video. The video is pretty cool and yes, I love Guitar Hero a lot. Bought a guitar for my PS2 and if I am not mistaken, it will be arriving next week at my doorsteps. Sooner, I’ll get the Guitar Hero On Tour for the DS when I get a DS in this week or 2.
