New iPods Announced at Apple Event
I stay up late last night(midnight/early in the morning) to watch the live coverage of the Apple media event - The Beat Goes On. Apple doesn’t provide live video feed, I had to keep refreshing some sites to get the updates of it.
I am happy on what Steve announced on that event.
What took the main stage is the iPod Touch. Basically, it’s an iPhone without the phone and camera feature. I had been waiting for a full touch widescreen iPod for 2 years. I thought they would announced last year but it didn’t. At least it is now a real thing. It is not very expensive though, $299 for the 8GB model and $399 for the 16GB model. iPod, Photos, Videos, Safari, Youtube, Calendar, iTunes Music Stores. Now it’s a true portable media player. Well, I definitely getting this. It will be in stores by 27th September in countries that have Online Apple Stores and early October in Malaysia.
The iPod Nano is now in it’s 3rd generation. It is fatter and with a 320×240 resolution screen and also it’s very thin. What amazed me the is the pricing and new UI. The price is super duper cheap, $149 for the 4GB model which is only available in silver and $199 in 8GB. The UI changed, now with added cover flows like on the iTunes.
Now the old iPod has a name - iPod Classic. Sleeker design with rounded edge, metallic silver and black colour. The best is it’s capacity has boost to 80GB and 160GB. That’s huge and you could be having tons of photos, videos and music on it. As for the price is $249 and $349 respectively.
iPod Shuffle - Not much special about the iPod Shuffle, no price drop or increase capacity or new design. Just with new colours and also a Product (red) iPod Shuffle. Price remain the same.
iPhone - People that just purchased their iPhone not long ago must be pissed now. Steve announced a price drop on both of the iPhone, 8GB iPhone is now $399. 4GB iPhone will be selling at $299 until stocks end. Apple now will drop out the 4GB model and come out a new one with bigger capacity.
So…
I am very happy with the new iPod. The iPod Nano, Classic and Shuffle will be shipping today as for the iPod Touch will be ship by 27th September.
Malaysians can check out your nearest Apple store now too. Penang’s Apple Centers will be bringing them in on this Saturday, hopefully.
