You wouldn’t believe me, I bought a pirated Blu-Ray DVD disc today. I was accompanying my friend who was browsing for some pirated DVD at a shop here and something caught my eyes and that was the Blu-Ray disc cover. It is because of curiousity, I bought a copy home to try. It was selling for RM18 per disc. I knew that there’s no BD being copied or duplicate yet, though there’s image file of BD on the net. It’s possible for buring the image file on disc but it may not turn out high def because normal DVD player plays 480i/p video.
Of course, even if it’s a BD image on a DVD, I still can’t access those feature like on the BD player. After playing it for a while on the DVD player, I noticed that it’s just like a normal DVD video, at progressive scan but less noise. My DVD player can’t do upscaling to 1080 resolution, the maximum it can goes is 480p via component cable.
Since nothing much difference, I placed the disc into my media PC which connected to the TV via VGA cable and capable to output a resolution of 720p. Maybe it will be playing at higher res on my PC though after checking the video resolution, it’s at 720×480 which is same like DVD movie. This is definitely not a HD movie. I could say it’s a downscaled HD movie on a DVD. Even the TV series I’ve downloaded is at higher resolution that that (1280×720).
Well, it’s just fake seeing BluRay disc in pirated DVD shop. By the way, please support original titles.

Oh…thanks for your advice. I don’t see any pirate BD in KL. Btw, you have a BD reader?

the one you bought(which is shown) is actually up to 720p only at the dvd resolution.
Ive got others which is better than your bd version. Tip-buy the one with 2-covers(box-set style hard cover outside, dvd cover inside, dvd packaged with a envelope)because the quality is way better than your “flattened blu-ray box” version. The quality is like 1080p @ 720×480 no matter wat player u use. I bought 12 from summit and 1 in ss15….here are my titles…
Batman Begins(box)
The Dark Knight 2-disc edition(blu-ray box)
Enchanted(blu-ray box)
Iron Man(box)
The Incredible Hulk(box)
Transformers(flattened blu-ray box)
Lakeview Terrace(flatened blu-ray box)
Tropic Thunder Director’s Cut(Box)
Hancock(Blu-ray Box)
Sweeney Todd(Blu-ray Box)
Rambo(Blu-ray Box)
The Fast and The Furious Tokyo Drift (HD DVD,box)
Death Race Unrated(box)
Also there’s a shop called Le Ann in Summit USJ (3rd floor) and i’ve found pirated blu-ray discs(ori format) at half the ori price of RM 68!!!
Good Luck searching
(i’ve made a research on pirated blu-ray dvds quality table, respond if u wan to see.)

Am quite curious…where can you purchase these pirated blu ray copies from?(not as DVD9's)….and can they be played on a blu ray player without damaging its lens…what bout its quality?…am thinking if the quality of the Blu ray movies ripped in DVD9's are almost similar(*not to the trained eye);..might as well get the DVD9's instead…what do you think?
