REVIEW:Guitar Hero On Tour for Nintendo DS

Guitar Hero On Tour Box

Guess what, my Guitar Hero On Tour for the Nintendo DS that I ordered a week ago has finally arrived at my doorstep. I bought the game online at a site call Play-Asia.com which is where I bought some of my console gaming accessories.

It’s a little bit cheaper when compairing to local price, I bought it online because I have funds in my PayPal account and it’s useless if I leave it there since I can’t withdraw it out yet. It has now takes one week time for the free delivery of the parcel to arrived. It was two weeks when many many months ago.

The box is not as huge as I thought. It’s just the size of two Nintendo DS game box.

Guitar Hero On Tour Package

Opening the box, I came across a few things. The main guitar grip with four buttons which require you to plug into the GameBoy cartridge slot, the game’s manual, sticker for for the grip or you want to stick it somewhere else and an adapter for plugging in the grip on the old phat Nintendo DS.

I can’t find the special pick stylus at first and then I remembered it is stick to the guitar grip when I saw some video on YouTube.

Guitar Hero On Tour Cartridge

I’m glad as this is actually my first purchase of Nintendo DS oringal title. At the moment, I am playing games off the flashcart where all the roms are save into it.

I got to say that one of the reason I bought Nintendo DS for myself was because of the release of Guitar Hero On Tour. Even the tracks are limited to only 26 tracks, yet this is quite nice to play on the go. Plug in the grip, put in the cartridge, turn it on and you are ready to jam.

I dislike the game that the grip is being lose, it’s quite easy get detached from the Nintendo DS when you are jamming too fast and it require you to make a restart of the game in order to continue playing. You can’t just so, repluggin the grip and continue playing.

Here’s a complete new soundtrack which will not be available on the console version of Guitar Hero, most of them are literally new pop song and only some oldies rock.

Tier 1 - Subway:

  • Ok Go - “Do What You Want”
  • No Doubt - “Spiderwebs”
  • Jet - “Are You Gonna Be my Girl”
  • Blink 182 - “All the Small Things”
  • Twisted Sister - “We’re Not Gonna Take it”

Tier 2 - Rooftop:

  • Nirvana - “Breed”
  • Smash Mouth - “All Star”
  • Rick Springfield - “Jessie’s Girl”
  • Pat Benatar - “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”
  • Maroon 5 - “This Love”

Tier 3 - Parade:

  • Los Lonely Boys - “Heaven”
  • Bloc Party - “Helicopter”
  • The Doobie Brothers - “China Grove”
  • KISS (cover by Line 6) - “Rock and Roll All Nite”
  • Daughtry - “What I Want”

Tier 4 - Greek Arena:

  • Steve Miller Band (cover by Wavegroup) - “Jet Airliner”
  • Santana (cover by Line 6) - “Black Magic Woman”
  • Stray Cats - “Stray Cat Strut”
  • ZZ Top (cover by Line 6) - “La Grange”
  • Skid Row (cover by Wavegroup) - “Youth Gone Wild”

Tier 5 - Battleship:

  • Ozzy Osbourne - “I Don’t Want to Stop”
  • Incubus - “Anna Molly”
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - “Knock me Down”
  • Stevie Ray Vaughan - “Pride And Joy”
  • Lynyrd Skynyrd (cover by Wavegroup) - “I Know A Little”

Bonus

  • Freezepop - “I Am Not Your Gameboy”

You hold the Nintendo DS vertically with your left arm strapping onto the guitar grip, your right hand is to “strum” the string on the touch screen. I felt quite uncomfortable with my arm when I first play with it, it’s better to rest your arm on the desk when playing but after some times, it’s feeling nice to play the game.

Nintendo DS Lite with Guitar Grip

When activating Star Power, you don’t tilt your Nintendo DS, instead you need to shout “Rock On” through the microphone. It’s so silly but I will not do so, just blow through the microphone and the Star Power will be activated.

I’m the only one among my friends who own the game so I am not able to try out the multiplayer mode yet. It seems to be fun but let me finish all the track on all level except easy first.

Now I can jam wherever and whenever I want on the run and go on the train and bus and car!
