4G iPod nano Hands-on

IMG_8907

I have went into the Apple store to check out the new iPods. Unfortunately, the only demo unit available is the new iPod nano. Nevertheless, I quickly got my hands-on on it. It feels better than the fat 3G nano. Seriously, I like a long one than a fat one. The curve design makes it looks thinner and more comfortable. It has a very striking color for the silver iPod nano because the click wheels is in black

Screen is not very big, 2″ size, but when comparing with the 1G and 2G iPod nano, it seems big. It’s a little bit longer than the old Nano.

Navigating through the menu, nothing much amaze me. It’s still and iPod user interface, with thumnails and also cover flow when viewing the iPod nano in a vertical way.

The best new feature I like about the 4G iPod nano is the built in accelerometer. Besides working for cover flow, you can shuffle a song by just shaking your iPod nano. It’s like the Sony Ericsson W910i and W580i with shake control. Don’t you will be shuffling your song when you go on a run or a bumpy ride, you have to shake hard to shuffle to the next song. Isn’t that cool?

The rest feature remains the same. Videos, photos, music, and of couse it’s cheaper now. One thing I forgot to mention is, the new iPod nano is colourful, there’s 9 colours to choose from. I like the green, black and silver. What about you?

Holy shit, I have forgotten that it is now that the Apple Let’s Rock music event is on.

Predicts:

  • New iPod pricing
  • New iPod touch and iPhone firmware
  • iPod nano redesigned
  • iTunes 8.0
  • iPod touch of higher capacity with a plastic back cover like iPhone 3G

I think that’s all. What I most wanted to see is the new iPod nano. I have already own a iPod touch so, the revision of iPod touch won’t interest me that much but I’m sure it will be good for you guys who haven’t own an iPod touch because the price maybe drop.

Using the Google Desktop

google desktop

Windows Vista is a bit laggish to me, sometimes. I running on a 2GB and AMD 64 3000+ 2.0Ghz machines and it’s not powerful enough. I used use Windows Sidebar as my personal organizer with the weather info, todo list and calendar, but it had been running slow on my computer.

The Dashboard on a typical Mac is surprising smooth and fast, but Windows Sidebar is not.

Google DesktopI’ve already disabled the Windows Sidebar and I’ve just installed Google Desktop as a replacement. It looks just the same, just with an additional Google logo on it. I do not want to install the Yahoo Widgets because it’s always slow, I want to give Google a try.

It’s simple and there’s some cool widget to use. Like the Todo List, it will sync it with your Google account so you can check it when you are away from your keyboard or let’s say on the go. Google Desktop was actually a search feature for the desktop which immitate the spotlight and now there’s a sidebar for widget/gadget.

It indexed all the files in your computer, and the search bar is surprisingly fast. I’ve tried the Spotlight on a Mac and no doubt the Spotlight is still the best search feature.

Nevertheless, I am loving the Google Desktop. Simple, neat and organized.

New blogger and making money online

http://wordpress.org/screenshots/2.5/ss-4.png
image from wordpress.

Blogging is an enjoying past time but then at this time, blogging is also used as a term of a job. I got to clearify that there’s 2 type of blogger, one is for fun, for share, not for money and another one is for making money. I am on the 2 sides, though I have some advice to all those new bloggers out there.

Take a look at Engadget, and other popular tech news site, those are blog and writers behind them are called tech blogger. These tech bloggers are real blogger who are making money online by blogging. Besides that, people who have advertisement on their content-filled blog is also making money online.

I have been seeing a lot of friends poping up in the blogosphere. A lot ask for my advice on which Internet advertisement service to use, Nuffnang, Google AdSense, LinkXL, Advertlets, LinkWorth and so on. Then they started adding advertisement box into their little new blog with some content.

Eventually, advertisement > content + visitors.

What they are doing are actually very wrong. Never think of easy money comes to you. You need to work hard in order get your first payout and a lot of research. There’s not an free apple that will drop from the sky in any time.

Usually, blogger starts to add in advertisement when he feels that the daily visitors number is ready like > 500. If your daily visitors is just your friends and family, then you will not make money. Advertiser would never want to advertise to the same person again and again. You need to have a lot of unique visitors.

If you have just started a blog and you insisted to place advertisement, place one or two is enough. Do not spam your blog’s sidebar, header bar or any where with advertisement.

Ideal placing of the advertisement will let your reader feels comfortable and not annoying. You wouldn’t want to see a colourful advertisement after a few rows of reading and the same thing again. I’m sure that you will on click the X button.

Google Adsense is not for everyone and new blogger. After placing it for some times, I only realise that you need to work out on something only you can make money with it. You wouldn’t want to try it. It will just make your reader feel annoying if you place it at a wrong place and you will screaming “Why I earn $0.01 only?!”. If you have a lot of unique foreign visitors, you only then have the greenlight for Google Adsense.

Never ask people or yourself to click on your ads. I hate it when friends ask me to click on the ads on their blog. They didn’t know that it’s violating the regulation of the advertising service and they are clicking on their own ads as if it’s a clicking competition.

Some of my friends were blogging happily on other blogging platform etc. Wretch, Yahoo 360, MSN Spaces, LiveJournal and others more. They then switched to Blogger and said that they want to start making money online. Then the problem comes when they got no idea how the ads placing works, how to tweak the HTML and it’s getting ugly. Stick with your blogging hobby and don let make money online screw your hobby and your readers away.

Visitor and reader are very important, when you got a lot of visitor to your blog, I am sure making money online will be easy for you. Although you may start a blogging business first, but don’t let the money mind ruin you, content and reader first, money second.

Nokia 6280 Problems

IMG_8691

I am not a fan of mobile phone, I save my money more on gadgets than a mobile phone. I have been using the Nokia 6280 that my brother gave me for a few months and it’s dead now. Not 100% dead but it’s going to die, perhaps.

It’s actually sent into repair once last year and now it’s spoilt again. The battery has changed a new one, the previous one bloated.

I have to just dump this phone aside and use back my old Samsung D500C which quite a strong phone but bad software.

What the problem on the Nokia 6280 is, camera feature not functioning, no sound coming out from handset, had to turn on loudspeaker for phone calls, no more LED on screen, it’s dark, phone crash when surfing the net, the phone smells like it’s going to explode, electronic burning smells and lose slide.

Everything is OK to me except there’s a electronic burning smells from the phone which scared me. I scared it will explode in no time and so I will not using it anymore.

It’s time for me to save for a new phone. I haven’t been buying a phone for 3 years, it’s all from my brother’s. My wanted phone will be Samsung OMNIA, Nokia E71i, Nokia xpresMedia, HTC Touch Pro.

Google Chrome, a new web browser by Google

Apple’s Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, Opera, these are the popular web browser. I am currently using Mozilla Firefox 3.0, none other than that. It’s my very favourite web browser, fast and efficient.

Google recently just released a new web browser. From search client to web apps and now that make web browser. Google Chrome, the new simple, open source web browser by Google. I believe it’s to fight with the Mozilla Firefox.

chrome

The interface is pretty simple, with only an address bar and the tabs bar on top instead of below the address bar like on the Mozilla Firefox or any other browser.

Currently, it’s only available for Windows Vista and XP2. Download the mini file from Google and later it will download the Google Chrome via that mini installation file.

The Google Chrome has a very cool start page, which is a set of thumbnails with the site that you have visited recently. I like the idea of having the tabs above, it’s quite special.

It’s new and bug is common for a new thing. I have encountered a couple of lagness and non-responsive page of the program.

Personally, I’ll say that the Google Chrome wins Apple’s Safari for the simplicity but still Mozilla Firefox pwned its all. I only have used the Google Chrome once and I have not open it since then.

Recommended as an alternative for Mozilla Firefox on a netbook.
