Maxis just set up a 3G Internet Experience Lounge in New World Park, Penang. This is to promote mobile Internet to locals. However, I believe not much local aware about mobile Internet, only some tech savvy person like me does.

I wonder who do really Twitter on the go or read some news on the go. Mostly, they got a Blackberry, they don’t need m.gmail.com anymore. Malaysians are more onto Plurk then Twitter, so again, not much will go to m.twitter.com.

The only site they surf on the mobile I believe is Facebook and Friendster. Though this 2 sites, I have never went in before on the phone.

Personally thinking, the only way to promote mobile Internet is lowering the unlimited mobile data plan first, currenly the cheapest offer is from Digi and Celcom. Though Digi has only Edge network. If data plan is cheap, I’m sure I’ll be the first one signing up for it.

Malaysia Online Apple Store, Now Open!

Fullscreen capture 11112008 53438 PM.bmp

After a long wait, the Malaysia’s Online Apple Store is now open, rivalling Dell which is one of the top computer online store in Malaysia. Although there’s no real Apple store in town yet, but an online store is already a lot better.

Buying any Apple or Mac product at the Apple store will get you a free T-shirt. Cool, shirt that you can’t get at any typical Apple Premium/Gold Reseller in Malaysia.

You can now shop for Apple products online, pay with you card and wait for it to arrive at your doorstep. That’s not the best part of all yet, some might think that getting it in the store is better than shopping online, but it’s pretty wrong.

Shopping online at Apple Store means you will get rid of your headache on which Apple Reseller to go, there’s Machine in Lot10, there’s EpiCentre in Pavilion, I like both, but I can’t decide which store to go. Let’s go online, and get rid of reseller store fanboyism. Haha, some more you get it delivered to your doorstep (for free on orders above RM250).

With the Toll Free line, you can actually speaks in the Bahasa Malaysia, the Malaysia’s National Language, but I won’t do that. This gives you a tech support for your product too.

You can now get iPod engraving and (PRODUCT) RED iPods on Apple Store now, you can’t be finding this in any of the Apple Reseller in Malaysia. It’s only available on the net. Too, you need not worry about DIY engraving which void your warranty, you can do it online.

Lastly, there’s the educational discount for high school, college and university student, isn’t that so cool (for me)?

In the meantime, Apple Asia also launched Apple Online Store in Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines and Thailand. I wonder when will be the first official Apple Store in South East Asia?

Samsung DVD-1080PK : Design and Remote Control

IMG_4391 copy by you.

First of all thanks to Samsung for allowing me to do a review for the new DVD player, the Samsung DVD-1080PK. Well, I love movies, I love DVD and I love watching them on my comfy bed. Currently have a Samsung LCD TV and a Panasonic DVD cum Home Theater System in my room. Cut that crap and let’s get into some pictures of the new Samsung DVD-1080PK shall we?

IMG_4398 copy

From first glance, it’s a all black DVD player with piano black coating on the front. It’s looks like a very cool player, it maybe a Blu-ray or maybe not but unfortunately, it’s just a DVD player that upscale video into Full HD.

I like its black colour because it matches my black LCD TV a lot. The player is a lot slimmer than my Panasonic DVD player.

In term of design, it’s just a typical rectangle player but its simple looking design and the colour makes it looks classy in the living room.

There’s not a lot of button on it, there’s a little cover that will flip open which reveal the USB slot of ripping music onto a flash drive and the 2 karaoke mic input.

The only down side is, elders which eyesight problem may not know how to operate this because it’s all black and they will hardly see which part of the player is actually a button and which part is not. That doesn’t really bother a lot because there’s always a remote control.

All Samsung’s remotes are identical. The second one from the left is this DVD player’s, next to it to the right is my LCD TV and the last one on the right is a Samsung’s home theater system’s remote. I have a few Samsung machines at home. Haha.

“Packet Data : Connection Not Allow” error on N95 with Maxis

I have recently bought a new phone, I have a Maxis and Digi line, but my primary line is still Maxis which is for calling and receiving calls from friends and family. Sometimes, I do blog on the go, post some tweets and check the mail with the phone.

However, somehow I can’t get the Internet and data to work on the N95 with my Maxis line. I have already activated by 3G and GPRS data connection, have all the settings but it says “Packet Data : Connection Not Allow” when I am trying to connect to the Internet with 3G or EDGE GPRS.

I went to the Maxis service center and the people are noob, they just download the setting agains and asked me to wait for a text message contain the data setting, then restart my phone. I wait, the setting came, restarted and it’s still not working.

I get frustrated and called Maxis up. After some guidance from the lady, I am now able to connect to the Internet again. It’s pretty easy to edit the setting, it’s something to do with the connection setting on your phone.

Symbian S60

Symbian S60

  1. Press menu key.
  2. Go to Tools > Setting > Connection
  3. Scroll to the last one or just press up key. You will see APN control. A pop up message will appear “Connection restriction….”
  4. Press Option > Deactivate Restriction.
  5. PIN2 is 1234.
  6. When it’s says deactivated/inactive, restart your phone.
  7. Turn on again, surf the net now.

Pretty easy right? Try it now. If it does not work, call Maxis at 123. That’s what I always do.

Just a preview of what I am going to write about soon. It’s my new shopping gadget, the Nokia Nseries N95 8GB Black. =) Yes, I know there’s hell lots of review out there already, but I am still gonna share with you some of my thoughts as a teen geek/photojournalist using the phone and some tips on the phone. This is my first time using a Symbian S60 phone too, love the hacks and softwares a lot.

Huge screen, loud clear speaker and good camera. The phone is so far so good.
