LG KS360 Cheap Slider QWERTY Phone

lg-ks360-4

I was reading the newspaper and then an advertisement caught my eyes. It’s a T-Mobile Sidekick liked phone but doesn’t twist around for the QWERTY keyboard instead it’s a slider that slide sideway to review a QWERTY keypad.

It’s the LG KS360 and the price is quite interesting as it’s selling for RM699 (as stated on the advertorial).

lg-ks360-phone

This is probably aimed at heavy text messaging user like me but then mobile phone users in Malaysia are noobs, they don’t really like QWERTY keypad because most of them are used to T9 English and they are not familiar with the QWERTY keyboard layout. It also has a iPhone messaging liked UI which link up all the message into speech bubble thread which makes it look like chatting on IM.

Touch screen and the QWERTY keypad are the main attractive points of the phone and of course the price. It has a 2MP camera (without LED flash), microSD card slot (can be expanded until 4GB memory), 16MB built-in memory, media player and other usual things. Unfortunately, it doesn’t has a front-faced camera or 3G connection and a 3.5mm line out jack for playing music. It will be almost great if it does.

AP LG phones are quite hard to find, in fact not much people knows about this LG KS360 yet. Hopefully I can see one soon in store.

Pros:

  • QWERTY keypad
  • 2.4″ Touchscreen
  • Sleek design
  • Interesting price
  • Expandable memory via microSD and hotswap

Cons:

  • No 3G
  • Camera without LED Flash
  • No WIFI
  • Lousy web browser (can be fixed with Opera Mini)
  • No 3.5mm headphone output jack

Comes in a few colours too. I’ll picked the silver keypad one. =)

Google Chrome, a new web browser by Google

Apple’s Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, Opera, these are the popular web browser. I am currently using Mozilla Firefox 3.0, none other than that. It’s my very favourite web browser, fast and efficient.

Google recently just released a new web browser. From search client to web apps and now that make web browser. Google Chrome, the new simple, open source web browser by Google. I believe it’s to fight with the Mozilla Firefox.

chrome

The interface is pretty simple, with only an address bar and the tabs bar on top instead of below the address bar like on the Mozilla Firefox or any other browser.

Currently, it’s only available for Windows Vista and XP2. Download the mini file from Google and later it will download the Google Chrome via that mini installation file.

The Google Chrome has a very cool start page, which is a set of thumbnails with the site that you have visited recently. I like the idea of having the tabs above, it’s quite special.

It’s new and bug is common for a new thing. I have encountered a couple of lagness and non-responsive page of the program.

Personally, I’ll say that the Google Chrome wins Apple’s Safari for the simplicity but still Mozilla Firefox pwned its all. I only have used the Google Chrome once and I have not open it since then.

Recommended as an alternative for Mozilla Firefox on a netbook.

Battlefield Heroes is a free Team Fortress 2

Battlefield Heroes logoI bet a lot of you gamers out there heard of Team Fortress 2 which still currently in the top 10 best online multiplayer game, it was in the first place but its place has been taken over by Call Of Duty 4. As you know Team Fortress 2 is not a games with very realistic graphic like the Battlefield and Call Of Duty, though those 3D cute characters and bloody scene make the game addictive and fun. That’s why it’s being on the top multiplayer games list.

At this time, soon in the Summer, EA Games is going to release a similar game to the Team Fortress 2 and that is the Battlefield Heroes. From the trailer and in game footage, it’s seems to be a third person shooter instead of a first person one. Both gamesplay and graphic are alike, but it’s less bloody in Battlefield Heroes To be short about the games, Battlefield Heroes is a cartoon shooter. =)

The best part of the game is not the graphic but it’s the price of the game. You wouldn’t believe it when I say it’s a game from Electronic Arts and it’s giving out for free. Actually you don’t need a CD to play it and you don’t really need to download it too. It’s more like the game Soldier Front where you register an account on the net and sign in and play via a browser.

Play with a bunch of friends online and for free, I bet it will be fun. Let’s wait for the release.

Check out Battlefield Heroes website now.

Using Linksys Wireless N Network at Home

My room doesn’t has any LAN point or a telephone line port and because of this, I have no choice but to setup a wireless network at home. 3 years ago, I bought a Linksys 802.11b or known as wireless B router and adapter for my PC at home. It’s only for sharing and getting me connected to the Internet in my room. The Internet speed is good with it but then the connection always drop on the weak signal and I got no idea why I have to restart my router whenever it drops.

Soon, I bought a wireless G adapter hoping it can boost my receiver but then it failed on me. It still drops every few hours because of consistence connection with the router in the living room. After doing some research on the net, it’s believe that the router can’t handle that much connection and the receiver is a cheapo Asus USB receiver. I’ve not been able to get on to the Internet lately until I changes to a alternative solution and that is either getting a brand new wireless setup or a Power point-to-LAN point plug like the Homeplug or Powerplug.

Homeplug is way cheaper than getting a new wireless router and receiver, but then I can’t seems to find it anywhere in my place and so I had to dig out a little more money to invest in the wireless setup. ‘

Wireless G is an old technology although still popular, however I went for Wireless N which is the 802.11N wireless standard. This more to be mean that I am Mac-ready because all Mac have wireless N module in it except for the MacMini. Moreover, I can do file transfer between computers now, the speed is faster right now.

Linksys WMP300N Wireless-N PCI Adapter

I went for a PCI adapter instead of a USB one. Although, it’s only allow me to use on one PC, it gives me a better connection and does not uses my memory as USB does. Moreover, PCI is always faster and after so many days of using it, I got no connection drop. It’s always-on, always-connected and I get connected right away when I turn on my PC.

It looks like rocket , though it’s just the middle blue thing is the receiver, 3 cable is connected to the receiver and the back of the chassis. The cable quite short and I can’t place it high up, thus resulting in a weak signal. However, the weak signal did not affect the connection and I still get the maximum Internet speed and it shows 2 connection is connected to a network.

For around RM280 (85US$), the price is a little bit expensive but I got no other choice and I am not regret of getting this. If the cable is longer, it would be perfect.

Linksys WRT160N Wireless N Router

You don’t get a N receiver when you don’t have a router broadcasting N signal. I chose this WRT160N because mainly of the design. There’s actually another choice for me but after reading the review on the net, it seems to be a good one and the design is sleeker.

It has built-in range booster which is a good thing for my home as there’s a couple of wall between my room and the living room where the router is placed. There’s also a 4 LAN port, though there’s no need for me as I’m on wireless.

So far so good, no restarting on the router and I just leaved it in the living room.

Wireless N is said can reach a maximum speed of 270mbps, but then until now I only get 54mbps, still figuring out how to work on it, any ideas? Will it be it is broadcasting on G and N at the same time because my laptop doesn’t have a N connection.

Anyway, loving it and loving my Internet.

New or Weird IP from Streamyx Broadband

IMG_5637 copy

Last night, I can’t able to sign in to my Live Messenger, some International sites like YouTube, everything was going slow to me. I got into my router page and tried to reconnect the Internet, somehow I disconnected it and reconnect it over 10 times and I still get the same IP that starts with 118.xx.xx.xx.

Usually, based on the area I’m at, I’ll mostly get an IP that starts with 60.xx.xx.xx, when I’m lucky I’ll get something that starts with 218/219.xx.xx.xx which is known to be a good IP as that will be faster according to some forumers.

However, it’s 118 all the time from now on, is it a new IP from Streamyx because it’s the first time I’ve come across IP like this.

Wonder when only Streamyx Broadband service will be on par as Singapore/Hong Kong’s broadband provider?
