Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Plan By Celcom – The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is finally officially here in Malaysia. DiGi is the first one to announced it with their DiGi plan and today you can check out Celcom’s plan. Celcom do in fact provide a wider 3G coverage throughout Malaysia and if you are always on the go in Malaysia, Celcom is the better choice for you. But then the final choice is your own pick, I don’t want to play with your mind.

To simplify a bit, the tablet starts from as low as RM1,409, a little bit more than DiGI and there are 3 plans that you can choose from -

RM48 for 1.5GB
RM68 for 4GB
RM98 for 6GB

Good luck on your purchase on the Galaxy Tab 7.7. I want it so much, but now I’m gonna wait for the announcement of Apple iPad 3.

Celcom Unveils Galaxy Nexus Plan, Phone Starting RM1,348 – Celcom finally unveils the Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android phone plan and pricing, which phone starting from RM1,348. Currently, it’s only DiGi and Celcom offers Galaxy Nexus with call + data plan in Malaysia with the phone at a subsided price.

The phone by Celcom is cheaper at RM50 than the one offer by DiGi and a shorter contract period at 18 months.

Today, Friday is the launch of Galaxy Nexus in Malaysia and some DiGi user has already received their unit via online pre-order. As for Celcom, you will have to head over to the nearest Celcom outlet to get your unit.

Hands-On Samsung Galaxy Note

Hands-On Samsung Galaxy Note – I believe many of you have heard about the Samsung Galaxy Note, amaze with the super big 5.3″ Super AMOLED screen with 800×1280 pixel (~285 ppix pixel density), dual core processor as well as the S-pen capacitive pen input. Well, I have tried it and I am quite surprised with the phone too.

Looking from far, it looks just like a typical huge screen Android smartphone or an enlarged version of Samsung Galaxy S2. Physically, it looks good without holding it, but, when holding it on your hand, the weird feeling came.

It doesn’t feels good holding it on one hand. Your fingers just won’t cover the screen, typing with one hand is a real pain and you can hardly reach the top notification pull-down bar with a typical Asian’s hand. Well, I assume this device is a two hands operating device, it’s a no for one hand. I thought it is just slightly bigger than the Samsung Galaxy S2, but comparing side by side, it become so much bigger than the S2 which already known as a big device.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 runs on 1.4GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Dual-core processor which supports multitask and 1080p recording very well with a 8MP camera, as well as a front face 2MP camera. The main feature of the phone is the S-Pen Stylus which allows you to draw and write on the huge screen.

Surprisingly, the S Pen Stylus is very sensitive on the screen and is so much better than the stylus for the iPad/iPhone. It has a sharp tip which makes writing and drawing on the screen more precise.

The keyboard is the standard Samsung-modified Android Gingerbread keyboard. Typing on it with two hands are quite smooth, probably due to the huge screen, yet it’s not as good as the iPhone’s keyboard.

In term of battery life, it has a 2500mAh removable battery. The large capacity battery doesn’t really improve the battery life of a smartphone because it uses more juice to power the large screen and the dual-core CPU. One thing I did not mention is that the weight is quite light and very thin too given its huge size outlook.

So, should you buy the Samsung Galaxy Note? In my personal opinion, I think it’s rather too big to put in the pocket. it’s more for business centric person where a phone doesn’t slide into the pocket but instead kept in a belt pouched. It’s just doesn’t feel good on one hand. It size in between the Galaxy Tab and a normal huge screen smartphone. I would rather go for a Samsung Galaxy Tab if I would’ve wanted a large device. Alternatively, you can pick up the Samsung Galaxy S2 which stores well in your pocket.

Malaysia iPhone 4S Launch On 16 December 2011

Malaysia iPhone 4S Launch On 16 December 2011 - After the long wait, the new Apple iPhone 4S will be landing in the Malaysia land on 16 December 2011. Celcom confirmed the release on 16th December 2011, while Maxis and DiGi do not shows the exact date yet.

The new iPhone 4S features the same design as the iPhone 4 but with improvement in the CPU (Apple A5 dual core), a new 8mp camera, as well as the featured Siri on iOS5.

It will be available on 3 telco, Maxis, DiGi and Celcom. Maxis currently launched the Registration Of Interest page for the iPhone 4S while DiGi and Celcom put up a teaser on their website.

Celcom Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Plans And Pricing Reveal - In less than 24 hours, the Android-based tablet, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be launch and release in Malaysia by telco Celcom Malaysia with a firesale at RM99 for lucky 2o units. The pricing and plans for the tablet have been revealed in a media launch this morning at Menara Celcom.

Celcom offers the 3G version of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with several plans (RRP is RM1,899) that makes the device cheaper with a subscription of the Broadband plan together:

Celcom Broadband Basic – RM1,528 (with RM68/month broadband plan)
Celcom Broadband Advance – from RM1,468 (with RM98/month broadband plan)

Celcom also included an hidden price plan in their source code of this page which reveal that there will be 2 new plans – mAdvance and mPro.

12 months contract with mAdvance (RM58 commitment with 3GB data) – RM1,598 (save RM301)
12 months contract with mPro (RM88 commitment with 5GB data) – RM1,548 (save RM351)

24 months contract with mAdvance (RM58 commitment with 3GB data) – RM1,558 (save RM341)
24 months contract with mPro (RM88 commitment with 5GB data) – RM1,498 (save RM401)

*RM300 upfront payment (RM25 x 12 month) which will rebate back across 12 month

It seems like a good bundling plan but let’s head to the launch tomorrow to check out more and who knows, you might be the lucky one to get a unit at RM99.

The Apple iPhone-Android Phone On Celcom’s Website - My recent tour to Celcom Malaysia’s website to check about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 made me found a surprised photo of a photoshop-ed Apple iPhone-Android. Could this be the next iPhone? Or a China mock-up? NO!

Noticed the back and search button along with the Apple iPhone 4′s home button on the promotional material of the site. Photoshop-ing the iPhone is a good way of getting rid of copyright issue, yet it looks weird and odd.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 In Two Days By Celcom Malaysia – With the success of the Samsung Galaxy S2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab around the world, here comes the new Android-based iPad rival tablet. It will be brought to you by Celcom Malaysia exclusively, however no pricing and plan is announced yet. This means that all these will be unveal on the launch date on Saturday, August 20, sometime around 9am.

The Android Honeycomb-based tablet features Samsung’s TouchWiz UI and huge 10 inch screen is indeed a strong iPad rival. Though, there’s no standpoint between the iOS tablet – iPad and Android-based tablet. It’s up to the user to decide which tablet to use. A little bit 2 cents of mine is that, if you like customization and prefer web-based app, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is awesome, but if you are more to the applications, then it’s the iPad.

Nevertheless, both are great inventions and can’t wait to see the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Malaysia.

PC Fair Dec 09: Broadband War between Digi, Streamyx, P1, Maxis and Celcom

I found out that the most interesting part about Penang December PC Fair is not about booth babe because they don’t have any here, but it’s the broadband booth. After coming through the entrance and walk for about 2 minutes and you will find the broadband company booth all side by side.

It’s really a big broadband war inside, when you passed by,

P1 Wimax (4G), they will ask you to POTONG (means cut in Malay)
Streamyx (Copperline ADSL) will ask you to upgrade,
Digi Broadband (3G) will tell you they have got no contract and free modem,
Maxis Broadband (3G) will tell you broadband discount for postpaid user,
and Celcom Broadband (3G) will tell you, nothing, in fact they just keep shouting Celcom Broadband at me.

They set up their booth nicely and they got a lot of promoters! One broadband company has like more than 20 promoters and I guess they are fighting to see who has hired the most promoter. They just keep shouting and calling you to join and subscribe their network.

I am a Streamyx user and I will still stick with Streamyx, I only change if there’s alternative for wired Internet, perhaps a new company that provides FTTH 100Mbps package at less than RM100 per month, for sure I will potong (cut).

P1 Wimax has got a nice booth, free big paper bag, plenty of laptop for Internet surfing, a lot of promoters and (some) nice girls giving out balloons.

The promotion that is interesting is the GET 1 MONTH FREE AND RM160 DISCOUNT. Discount is always better than getting a free Wiggy (P1 prepaid wireless modem.

I speed test their machine and got a 2.4mbps speed. Not bad, I can’t find any P1 10mbps Wiggy to try though.

Next up is Digi Broadband booth, with a lot of yellow colour promoters but no free gift. I believe Digi Broadband is the best 3G broadband provider in Malaysia, with fast speed, good service, and good price when compare to Maxis and Celcom, the other two 3G broadband provider.

Their promotion in PC Fair is PAY RM88 FOR EXPLORE PLAN (NORMALLY RM108) AND GET A FREE MODEM. NO CONTRACT. The best of their promotion is no contract where P1 is contract based.

And I speed tested too, with P1′s speedtest site. It shows that it has a 1.9, almost 2mbps speed, still hardly reach maximum of 3.6mbps of HSPDA network. This is nice because it’s faster than my house 1.5mbps line.

Streamyx‘s booth didn’t interest me, they have got many promoters, but not as many as Digi and P1 have. So I went to speed test again and they got the fastest speed. Showing a 3.4mbps download, which I believe is running on a 4mbps plan. I want this speed and I want to ugprade, but I don’t have cash, so I need more sponsors. Hehe.

I am so not interested in Celcom Broadband, have heard a lot of bad comment about their service. The promoters don’t know their things around.

When I tried to speed test, the speed test site can’t even load and they told me they have got a lot of customer using their network so it’s slow. I got fed up and didn’t even get to speed test after waiting for few minutes. FAILED.

Lastly, I went to Maxis Broadband booth, green is their colour and they have balloons too. Actually I am also a Maxis Broadband user, using a 500MB data plan on top of my mobile postpaid line. Since it’s limited and pretty expensive, I only use it on the phone and not tethering it.

The speed test sucks again, showing only 187kbps which is less than 3G speed. Another FAILED one, at least I successfully ran the speed test. Their explanation of the slowness is many laptop sharing the same connection via a router, there’s a point, but still lousy.
