Buffalo MiniStation Extreme HD-PZU3 is a very durable portable hard drive that you should get your hands on. It’s my newly bought (RM189/500GB) for my backup solution as well as my portable storage. I was actually looking around on the Internet and there’s quite a few options for me to pick as aesthetic and durability is the two thing I am looking for.
I like gadget that has very good design which mostly simple and minimal. Seagate has one which is very slim and beautiful which attracted me a lot, however I did not go for it because it does not have shock protection. After looking around, I picked the Buffalo MiniStation Extreme HD-PZU3. The main reason of it is because it has a military grade shock protection which can sustain fall from as high as 2 metre.
I can’t really tell you whether the shock protection works or not, and I am not going to try it (haha), but it just give me a bit of insurance that my file will be protected as for now. USB cable is built in so there’s no need to carry another cable around which is a good point. Aesthetically, this is not bad, finger print magnet on the front side and the cons is actually it’s heavier than some other portable hard drive out there which does not has shock protection.
After all, a portable hard drive is for taking around right? And there will be accident of being drop or knock, or what not. That’s why, durability is important. Alternatively, you can look for the Transcend StoreJet 25M3 but I don’t really like the design of it.
One more thing, I actually don’t bother about those software, or encryption thing that comes with the hard drive, I might format it right away and partition it into two drives to use with my Mac and Windows.
