Google’s Wearable Platform – Android Wear – Google has just unveiled a new operating system platform designed specifically for wearable devices which they call it the Android Wear. In a simple word, Android Wear is a new custom platform for smartwatches. It’s not a smartwatch hardware like Pebble or Samsung Gear, but it’s the system that runs on smartwatches, which brings more functionality to a smartwatch.
Most of the features reflects the real-time update similar to Google Now that brings you latest information like weather, news and notifications. Imagine, Google Now on your wrist. Operation is mainly through voice command and touch, but don’t expect there’s many button on the watch as simplicity is the main concept now.
Google stated that they are working with major watch brand to develop and build smartwatches that are elegant and chic yet functionable.
I find this is quite interesting as wearable devices are a hit this couple of years with the success of Pebble watch. The clock face on the promo video is not a favorable thing but I believe there will be alternative similar to Pebble. With Google joining this wearable party, I can foresee the smart wearable device will be the next thing and will Apple comes out with an iWatch too? Perhaps.
