So now you have updated your SketchUp to the latest version of SketchUp 2013 and you want to move your plugins to the new one, I am very regret to tell you that it is strongly not advisable to copy everything from the old plugin folder into the new plugin folder of SketchUp 2013. It is because that it will definitely cause a few plugins problem that you might think that it’s a bug problem of the latest Trimble SketchUp 2013.
I have just updated my SketchUp 8 to the latest version and I was one of the victim who copied all the old plugins to the new one and I get the error of plugin version incompatibility with the new one. It’s quite weird because the error says it need SketchUp version newer than SketchUp 6, which I am definitely in. It’s just couldn’t work and you have to redownload the latest plugin.
Best tips for this is to:
- Delete the plugin that pops up error window & redownload the latest plugin.
- Do not copy the plugin from the old folder, instead jot down all the name of the plugin. Then head over to SketchUcation, register an account, go to the plugin store, download and install SketchUcation Plugin Store. (How to install: SketchUp 2013 – Window – Preferences – Extensions – Install Extension … (look for the SketchUcation Plugin Store *.rbz file) Then in the SketchUcation Plugin Store in SketchUp 2013, you find your plugin that you want and install.
SketchUcation Plugin Store is strongly recommended to look for SketchUp’s plugin because it’s up-to-date, easy to find and safe. It has more plugins than the SketchUp 2013 Extension Library. Besides just using SketchUcation Plugin, do take a search in the new SketchUp Extension Library too. The new SketchUp 2013 has a lot of changes and that’s why some old plugin does not work anymore. Cheer!
